about

Written by Julia Richardson & Penny Flanagan

Julia Richardson: vocals/guitar
Penny Flanagan: vocals/guitar
Bernie Hayes: bass
Vincent Sheehan: Drums

Produced by Club Hoy
Engineered by Mark Thomas

“There were two versions of the Club Hoy sound. The sound most commonly captured on recordings was our signature twin-vocals-and-acoustic-guitar sound with the songs ripped from the pages of our personal journals. Then there was the other sound, a four-piece pop band sound more commonly associated with our live shows. This B-side track represents that ‘other’ sound. And as such it represents a version of us that was not as widely broadcast or recorded. It represents the moment in time before we started writing from experience, when we were just trying to write catchy pop songs for the sake of it. No one had their heart broken and nobody had a lyrical axe to grind. It’s just four chords, a mouthful of smart-arse lyrics and some random shouting. It captures perfectly the brash, fearless spirit of two girls who dared to call themselves a band. Which is why this recording deserves its place somewhere in the Sound As Ever archives, if only for posterity.”
