about

Written by Jason de Wilde and Pelican Jed

Jarrod Murphy (lead vocal and rhythm guitar)
Andy Tolhurst (Lead guitar)
Jason de Wilde (Bass)
Justin Beckett (Drums)

Recorded, Engineered and Mixed by Jason de Wilde in Sydney sometime around 1994-ish

“Pelican Jed were the band that could've and should've been the “next big thing”... but they burnt out way too fast. Relentless touring and very bad consumption habits allowed exhaustion to take its toll. Their brash, frantic and exploding pop sounds was unlike others in the nighties Sydney indie scene. But that same uniqueness meant they were left out of the 'cool indie band' (IE shoe gazer) clubs. Or maybe they just looked different. Pelican Jed viewed the path to rock n roll success as a competitive sport of Olympic proportions - which left them often battered and bruised. 'The Accident' was an old song that Jason had in his demos. When it got the “treatment” (typically a 6 month ordeal of a million arrangement ideas) it became a true example of their defining sound: fast, loud, right up in your grills pop showcasing the musical prowess and barking vocals that was oh so Pelican Jed. They were to break up before “The Accident” was officially released, and it joined the rather expansive catalogue of unreleased recordings. But we may rectify this soon... hopefully.”
