“This song did get pressed and made it to radio and that’s when our trouble started. A moderately successful bar band with a reputation for pulling a crowd that could drink we’d stayed largely out of the limelight until that point. We’d had a drummer change between the first and second times we recorded it and our self-financed album was still shaking off the hangover from the launch we had with the Working Class Ringoes at the Gershwin room when we got a letter from the lawyers at Warner Brothers. You can guess what they wanted; they wanted to teach us a lesson about big versus little. We had little to lose and being drunk a lot of the time and full of Dutch courage we figured we were a chance so we said “what are yous lookin’ at?”
It took them about two years before they managed to muster a big enough gang of similarly money focussed and art averse powderpuffs to scare us off and we renamed the band Overnight Jones which made little sense because by that stage we‘d been around for six years and no-one in the band was called Jones.”
